When you think about starting a new year, you think about goal setting. As a wife, I begin looking at growth areas and how I can support change in those areas. But, sometimes that can be overwhelming. My husband and I recently hosted a couples vision planning session and one of the things that continues to resonate with me is the value of focusing on only one new thing. My husband and I decided to greet each other with a kiss at the beginning and end of each day. Our goal was to show more physical affection and affirmation and we’ve been successful with this one new habit. I am amazed at how it is slowly leading us closer to our goal and positively changing our relationship.
Look, I am a laundry list queen! If asked, I have all types of exercises, habits, and tips that I believe will set our relationship off the charts. But, as well-intentioned as that may be, it is overwhelming, and in the end, can cause more grief than good. Just think about it, as humans we can only accept change one thing at a time.
My tip this year…focus on one new healthy habit in your relationship. Your husband and your marriage will thank you!
